Podcasts and radio - can they work together?

Here are some thoughts from Erin Trafford, daughter of former CFRB/Global newsman Dave Trafford, who currently heads up a podcasting venture with her father in Toronto. She frequently comments on LinkedIn and other business pages about how radio and podcasting can work together in mutually beneficial ways:

Despite trying, radio still doesn’t really understand podcasting and is leaving tons of revenue on the table. Why in 2024 are we still asking if podcasting is worth it or if YouTube should be considered? The answers to both are solid - yes and yes. Radio needs to take it up a notch and start asking ‘how can podcasting open NEW revenue channels?’ And what can that look like?

So, what do you think? Is podcasting another potential revenue stream for radio?

Re: Podcasts and radio - can they work together?

Anything that gets people listening long enough to hear an ad and actually buy the product advertised is good for radio (being a business) but
To quote Howard Stern "Podcasting is not radio..."
He even goes a step further to say "Podcasting is for losers"
Here's Fox News interviewing someone else on what THEY think of Stern's comments and Podcasting in general...

It's the same issue as with streamers. Why tune in at a specific time to listen to a recorded show OTA when I can just listen to it as a podcast at my convenience? Having podcasts on the radio is a good way to promote a podcast - which you can then subscribe to, but not a good way to build a radio audience. Of course if a media company sees radio as just one of several platforms that complement each other.
