Thanks for these.
The CBC rating is surprising. But good for Boom. A hot sounding station with great production elements. Clearly people are noticing. They deserve the success.

They rely on getting lots of hours out of a smaller listener base than a lot of the music stations, so their ratings can vary widely depending on the sample

Just about the only statement that doesn't start a debate around here

The 25-54 age group is certainly listening to Toronto radio. Only about 8.4% out of market listening. I guess higher if you count Z 103 as out of market. You would think Today would do a bit better. They are not live as much as BOOM but I think they sound pretty good. Guess it's hard when you are late to the party.

You can't do the out-of-market station calculation in a PPM market, since it only counts stations that encode. So KX Country's signals don't factor in, for example.

Ok, thanks. Is there anyway of knowing how KX does in Toronto?

Not really. The only clue here is 88.5's slow start. But it's not a great indicator because the 88.5 signal doesn't have huge overlap with 94.7/95.9

Love Boom, their all 80's long weekend programming hits the spot.

That is the first time I've seen 640 actually ahead of 1010. Never thought it would happen, but considering what a hollowed-out mess CFRB has become, not really surprising. 640 is a better station now.

So what's really more profitable?
680 News with their 7.7 share?
Or NT 1010 with their 2.0 share?
On one hand, there's higher ratings, but then, on the other hand there's far lower ratings with a lot less business expense.

Broadcast Dialogue has a different take on the numbers, putting CBC back on top along with CHFI for 12+. They also briefly highlight numbers from other major markets.
Numeris spring PPM ratings for Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton & Vancouver

680. Probably around 30 employees on their payroll. Highest billings in the city would offset that easily. They have more spots per hour than anyone.

Good to see 680 doing pretty well.
Always good to see that there is an audience for all news content.

It would be interesting to see what would happen to their numbers if someone else tried an all news format in the city.
It's not unheard of in a market. New York has two - WCBS and WINS, although they're both owned by the same company, effectively competing within the family.

Always been interesting watching them differentiate those two. WINS is aimed at Manhattan and runs quicker a little more sensational, while WCBS covers the rest of the city at a bit of a slower pace.
It's only recently that a new union deal allowed them to share a newsroom.
While they used to be close to each other in ratings, adding a full power FM for WINS has really separated them. Last book was WINS 4.7 (#5) and WCBS 1.8 (#19)

From what I've seen, they seem to have started adding more recent songs to their playlist(think Collective Soul, among others).

Just curious. How well does Boom come in in Buffalo? Does the branding fit the signal (i.e Booming in?)

Fun fact: Collective Soul's "Gel" is as old now as "Elanor Rigby" was when "Gel" was released. (29)

Save for the downtown area, Boom comes in pretty well throughout the metro. I'm not sure of the EXACT reach of Boom into the southern parts of WNY, but I can certainly test it out one of these days. (edit 6/10: Boom's signal is pretty servicable down to Westfield, NY(in Chautauqua County)and might be heard as far away as North East, PA(NE of Erie, PA). Mind you, my car antenna is pretty good. YMMV.)
I'll say this: It certainly puts WHTT to shame. They also run classic hits.

Thanks for the swift answer. You guys are lucky. You get more of ours than we get of yours.
It wasn't always that way. Buffalo radio used to boom (you should pardon the expression) into Toronto in the old days. Those days, sadly, are gone. Outside of the usual super-powered 102.5 and 95.5, what used to be almost every station coming in like locals, it's almost impossible to get anything on FM here anymore.
Outside of WGR, even the AM isn't the same. I still can't figure out what changed with WBEN-AM's signal. It's almost impossible to get here and that wasn't the case in the old days.

In the south once atop the hills T.O comes in clear. Long time ago I remember listening to CHFI all the way to Erie PA
Most of these stations are gonna be on their new higher CN tower antenna soon!

Looking at the Montreal English numbers, how does CJAD continue to get 30 shares in the 12+ category while NT1010'S might be in the 4-5 range? I am sure Bell cut the Montreal news department as much as in Toronto. Do their talk show hosts have a broader viewpoint on the political spectrum?

So rated english stations in Montreal are
CBC 1
CBC 2
Virgin
CJAD

TSN 690
Does Evanov's Lite 106.7 take part in the Montreal ratings?
