Professional "Curmudgeon" Actor Dabney Coleman Is Gone
He specialized in playing the awful and the annoying. And there were few better at it than actor Dabney Coleman. He was in an endless number of classic films, all playing essentially the same part, flicks that included "Tootsie," "War Games," "You Got Mail," and maybe most memorably the miserable boss in "9 To 5."
He also had his own television show for a time called "Buffalo Bill" in which he played an irascible TV show host.
He passed away Thursday at the age of 92.

I have always thought one of the best scenes Coleman did was in a Chevy Chase movie which the name escapes me at this moment, the premise being Chase attained some kind of telekinetic powers . He and his girlfriend attend a weekend gathering where Colemans character was also there as a single, who attempts to charm Chase's girlfriend into being with him. In one scene Coleman walks past the girlfriend naked, and later after Chase has Coleman float around the dining room table in mid air, and then drops him into a cake or something face first, Coleman storms out of the room yelling, " I'm a God damned good looking man ". I still use that line jokingly to this day. RIP Dabney.

I really liked the Slap Maxwell Story - in which Coleman played a sportswriter. No laugh track, very wry, it didn't fit the 80s sitcom mould and didn't get renewed.

He also showed his strength when he played Jane Fonda's fiance in On Golden Pond. Coleman stole a key scene away from an aged Henry Fonda and also held up well with Kate Hepburn.
