I wanted to see what the early read on TV ratings were for the NHL playoffs in Canada so far, but a funny thing happened on the way to the Montreal Forum...even though it is the new Bell Centre.
I stumbled upon this article based in the U.S. and hockey has been more popular on both TV and in the stands south of the border.
It is a bit surprising, but the drama has been compelling.
The major sports networks stateside are performing well.
Here is more on the story.
Enjoy the read and comment away,

Putting it back on ESPN was a good idea. Also, the NBA is terrible.

I would tend to disagree. Two of the Leaf/Bruin games on ESPN have drawn 1.13M and 1.24M viewers. Vegas/Dallas numbers are 1M and 780K. Some of the NBA numbers on TNT Lakers/Nuggets 3.62M, 76ers/Knicks 2.95M, Heat/Celtics 2.86M, Pelicans/Thunder 2.81M.

The NBA had a good night this past Saturday on ABC with the Nuggets and Lakers game. The upstart UFL football game on FOX not so much. Ratings from a quiet Saturday evening from TV Ratings Guide..

Friday numbers for hockey down south were a bit soft. Very low for the Oilers/Kings game with 290,000 viewers to a high of 630,000 on TBS for Rangers/Capitols. Friday evening cable numbers..
