AM640's Year In Review Was Great, But...

The station had time to fill on New Year's Day with everyone off, so they replayed a series of Ben O'Hara-Byrne's show recapping several different areas of the year - politics, weather stories, the environment, etc. Another contributor from CKNW did the top entertainment stories for an hour.

(They also had automation problems - at one point, Queen's "Bicycle Race" played in its entirety, likely to cover for dead air, before the show that was supposed to be on finally returned in mid-segment.)

The recaps were pretty interesting overall, with one caveat - there weren't enough of them. They've been repeating the same four hours of so over and over and over and over. I'm guessing that:

a) they didn't want to go to the bother of producing more stuff, which would be costly and time consuming and
b) they probably feel the audience is tuning in and out - if they're tuning in at all - on such a dull day for news and talk.

Well, as far as b) is concerned, they're practically guaranteeing that by airing the same segments again and again and again.

Over on CFRB, John Moore's special programming is similar, but at least they've prepared other recaps with other hosts. (As an example, the long absent Jerry Agar is doing the best science stories of 2023 with Dan Riskin as I post this.)

As far as I can tell, the only information source that's live on NY Day, is CityNews 680, which is also repetitive, but in a very different way.

Can't wait for next week when the local media world returns to normal!

Not so fast.  Went to several shops yesterday to do some routine chores, and arrrgh! every one was still playing %$#@& Christmas music!
New Year's Eve!

The staff at the grocery store where I am employed made sure the Christmas music was gone when the store opened at 8am on Boxing Day. I was extremely thankful.
