It's The End Of Curb Your Enthusiasm & This Time, He Really Means It!

HBO has announced one last season - the final one ever, insists creator Larry David - of the classic "Curb Your Enthusiasm." The cable show has been on - and off - an incredible 12 years, and deals with the cringeworthy adventures of its creator, who he insists isn't really like him.

He promises this is definitely the final year, despite saying that countless times before.

“As ‘Curb’ comes to an end, I will now have the opportunity to finally shed this ‘Larry David’ persona and become the person God intended me to be – the thoughtful, kind, caring, considerate human being I was until I got derailed by portraying this malignant character,” David said in a statement. “And so ‘Larry David,’ I bid you farewell. Your misanthropy will not be missed. And for those of you who would like to get in touch with me, you can reach me at Doctors Without Borders.”

Someone tell that to the Eagles and the Who.

The show is not to everyone's taste, and deals with horribly awkward social situations and other Seinfeld-like minutiae, which some find unbearable to watch and not funny, and others think are hysterical. (I'm in the latter category, but your mileage may differ.) Much of it is completely ad libbed, which I why it often seems so realistic.

And if you can't wait for its 10-episode debut on Feb. 4th, I would advise you to Curb Your Enthusiasm. (See what I did there?)

The guy's worth half a billion dollars so he certainly doesn't have to do the show - but I wouldn't be surprised if he gets bored and decides to go for another season in a few years, health allowing.

I hope so - and I say this as a big fan of Larry David.

I've found that shows that take a hiatus just aren't the same when they return. Seasons 1-8 of Curb are all very strong.

S9-11 all had some great moments but overall, there was something missing for me and at times, the LD persona of the show merely came across as "just-another-out-of-touch-old-crank".

Re: It's The End Of Curb Your Enthusiasm & This Time, He Really Means It!

My all time favourite episode was the one in which Larry invited his father, played by the late Shelley Berman, to dinner to meet with another "survivor." The implication was that both had made it through the Holocaust.

But the guest turned out to be a young guy and his only claim to fame was that he was on the TV reality show "Survivor" and called himself by that term.

Only in the cringeworthy world of Larry David could they make a joke about such a terrible moment in history and still make it awkwardly funny.

My favorite episode was the one where Larry and his dad smoke weed. I can only imagine how much they and the  crew must have laughed when the camera stopped .

A final promo for the series has been released. It's typically hilarious and it's pretty, pretty, good.
