The Old WWJ Detroit Lives On In A New Way
This story may interest members in Windsor - the old WWJ building, built specifically for radio in 1936, now has a new face and a new purpose. But there are still traces of the veteran broadcaster that once occupied the place in every nook and cranny, as the photos in the linked story show.

Just out of curiosity, I checked their room rates. Depending on whether you require a Queen or King sized bed, $249 or $269/night.

In 1982, WDIV, the original WWJ-TV, moved out of that building and into a brand new studio complex, its current home next door, at 550 West Lafayette. I believe this makes "Local 4" the only major Motor City TV station still operating primarily from studios in Detroit proper; others, such as ABC affiliate WXYZ 7 or FOX's WJBK 2, are out in the Southfield area.

Good on those guys for saving a beautiful piece of Art Deco architecture. Sadly, KFI Los Angeles and NBC's Radio City in Hollywood succumbed to the wrecker's ball. In the 1930s, Art Deco radio studios were all the rage, including the Daily Press/CKGB building in Timmins. Even some transmitter buildings were Art Deco, including CFRB's built at Southdown Road in 1948.
