Top 20 Shows So Far This Fall In Canada (Maybe)

Respected TV journalist Bill Brioux has taken a stab at listing Canada's top 20 shows so far this fall.  He basis this on the sporadic and vague information released by CTV, CBC, Global and City.

Any information from the networks this fall has been quite generalized, no actual numbers and short on detail.

Bill has attempted to highlight the popular Canadian and US shows in the article with a list at the end of the top 20.

People still watch regular old TV?  Other than NFL football, and Jeopardy occasionally, I have never watched a single episode of any of the programs listed.  To each their own.

Well these aren't regular times with the prolonged strikes.  Over all regular old TV is still very popular but I would love to see ratings for the news channels, national news casts and specialty channels.  All we ever see is US figures which is fine but I am more interested in the numbers here.

Interesting how this top 20 is so different than US Top 20 which is almost all football.  At least there is still some variety in Bill's list, and five domestic shows making the cut.

Just for comparison, here are the latest ratings from the U.S. TV Guide from last week. Not all NFL, although sports does really well. Sadly the numbers for regular broadcast television aren't what they used to be and likely never will be again.

Week of October 23 to October 29 Nielsen had half of the top ten NFL football and eight out of ten sports.

Interesting in the cable ratings, all the non sports programming is still dominated by FOXNews. Despite all the lawsuits, Middle America aka Flyover country is still watching.

I REALLY would love to see the comparison with streamer hits though.  It's weird trying to grasp linear television viewership actually being a "thing" in 2023.  To me, it's like when I was still trying to purchase LPs in 1990.  Sure you could, but ...

Cheers,
