Strikes Force ABC To Return Monday Night Football To Free TV

With little new non-reality programming to put in the front window of your TV set, the U.S. networks have been floundering looking for ways to avoid airing audience-repelling reruns this fall.

In the case of ABC, that means the return of an old favourite - Monday Night Football. It had been moved to ESPN in 2006, but now the mothership has called it back to the free TV airwaves, simulcasting at least 10 matches with its cable brother.

Not sure what happens to the Canadian feed or whether it will be picked up on free over-the-air TV here, as well.

Tonight and next Monday there are two games with 7:15 [ESPN] and 8:15 [ABC]  kickoff times. TSN carries the ESPN game, while CTV2 simsubs the ABC telecast.

This means that Jeopardy! is being pre-empted in a number of large markets on Mondays, as the show airs on ABC affiliates at either 7:00 or 7:30 in New York, Philadelphia, and Washington, and is delayed to a later time in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle. Markets adjacent to Southern Ontario are not impacted since the show airs on affiliates of other networks there.

Jeopardy itself is airing a Second Chance tournament with some recycled clues from previous seasons.

From what I can tell Jeopardy airs on WDIV in Detroit and WIVB in Buffalo. At least YES TV airs at 7;30 from Monday to Fridays.
