Writers/Actors Strike To Continue No Negotiations Planned

A glimmer of hope was dashed yesterday when the Writers Guild (WGA) and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) could not agree to resume any discussions or negotiations.  The strike has now been over three months.  More details from Deadline..https://deadline.com/2023/08/writers-strike-meeting-union-studios-no-new-talks-1235455349/

A new ray of hope. But they're still a looooong way apart.

One of the comments after the Deadline article that RA posted had this to say.. (from IATSE)...Hoping and praying for resolution ASAP for us all. Hopefully AMPTP will offer a good contract and WGA will accept it is a negotiation and they will not get everything they want.
A thing I definitely have noticed about this strike that was different than 08, most people outside of the business don’t seem to either know about this strike or maybe they just don’t care? It was a much bigger deal in 08. I think big picture both sides should be well aware of that. This biz doesn’t have everybodies attention anymore. It’s a more competitive landscape for eyeballs.

It is summer. People are out doing various activities aware their are nothing but reruns of their favourite shows on tv. Come September when everyone is back to school/work, viewers will quickly learn about the strike when there is no fall season with new series and new episodes of returning series.

This could be the first year since the early 50s when there won't be a Fall Preview Issue of TV Guide.

That's because there won't be anything to "preview."

An odd note but another interesting side effect of these walkouts.

I always looked forward to the Fall Preview issue. Too bad they aren't archived somewhere. It would be interesting to read the original reviews of Gunsmoke, Bonanza, Perry Mason, etc. Alas, the only thing archived are all the original covers.

According to the August 14th edition of TV Guide, they still plan on publishing a Fall Preview issue - although exactly what they're going to "preview" remains to be seen.

Oh Bob

Always trying to stir up trouble

Since you mention it I'm keeping a score card on both battles.

Trudeau versus the Mega Powers & the writers and their tussle with the producers

All four parties with plenty of clout

Who blinks first?

Fascinating to see when and how things shake out

But more importantly how are things in downtown Bowmanville these days?

We're doing swell here Fester. Thanks for asking.
If any SOWNY readers are feeling generous, here's the heart-warming tale of a little girl in the nearby community of Courtice who is working hard to get some Taylor Swift tickets. Her mother has MS, but she's been helping her daughter's fundraising efforts as best she can.
I've donated to her efforts, and I hope you will too.

It is one thing raise enough money to purchase Taylor Swift tickets. Will there be any tickets left to purchase, other than those on the secondary market?

And here it is. for whatever it's worth. "Your complete guide to all the new shows." What new shows? Most are either filler reality, imports from Canada or England or game shows. Most of them won't be around if/when the strike finally ends. But I guess it's the company's best selling edition of the year, so they don't want to lose that revenue.
