Should Stations Abandon Pt. II

approx 15 yrs ago, when MOJO 640 was located on jesse & gene way across from mel lastman square (seems like yesterday) a young man by the name of Mark Weisblott who was employed in some capacity by 640 (not a regular on-air host) was also a frequent SOWNY contributor.  After radio he went on to one of the weekly print entertainment freebies & then disappeared.

Anyhow, on Christmas Day Mark hosted a program he called something along the lines of "What Do we Jews do on Christmas Day".   He had lined up a no. of prominent retailers & politicians as phone-in guests, including the likes of Saul Korman who chatted -- jokes about going to a Chinese restaurant.    Extremely entertaining.
    .
He told us afterwords that it was unsettling because there was a high ratio of hate calls.    But it was innocent fun and I can't remember any other Christmas Day programming in all of my almost 7 1/2 decades of being a radio fan.    Thx for reading all the way down to here, and MERRY CHRISTMAS

K.

It is the @1236 Guy.  He's been on Toronto Mike several times.
And yes he posted as "weissblogg" and "wblog" on here.

Now we're getting somewhere.     Anyone know whether he will be available to save Christmas Day radio?

Re: Should Stations Abandon Pt. II

When it's so much cheaper to air 36 continuous hours of Coast to Coast? Yes, they're going to resurrect a show from 15 years ago and add the usual 640 interruption track by the usual gang of college kids. This year, they're adding Asthma, the custodian from the third floor for flourish.

It's too bad High Street will also be closed Sunday because there's nothing like a slab of pan-fried dead halibut, chips & cole slaw to celebrate the season

As opposed to a heap 'o live halibut served buried deep inside a Turkish hagus? (yes, there's a mixing of cultures here, but I've opened my 30 hour old Scotch early and am being flogged mercilessly at a Russian bathhouse on Dundas Street as we listen to throatsinger Bjorn Bjorn, the Infected Artist)

Re: Should Stations Abandon Pt. II

If my memory serves me correctly, Walter Bowles did the news on "Toast & Jamboree" with Bruce Smith. I can't remember if this AM Drive show aired on CBL or CJBC before they switched to all French.

CJBC I believe.  I remember Walter just before Uncle Bing did his 'thing'.

No but there is a brand new podcast of Toronto Mike, with him as the guest.
