Old Video Emerges Of WWJ Towers Going Up In Detroit - In the 1920s

It's short and it's silent, but it's a rare glimpse back to a time when a radio antenna was a brand-new idea. It's the construction of the WWJ Detroit tower in the Motor City in the roaring 20s. A curiosity, if nothing else.

Very cool seeing the station call letters light up at night. WWJ's transmitter site moved to Monroe County in 1998 so the station could move from 5000 to 50,000 watts. Operating at 950, which is a "Regional" frequency, I didn't think 50,000 watts was permitted. Perhaps the rules changed with extreme directional patterns?

You can only imagine what that looked like in the night sky in Motown in the 20s. I'm not sure how much was "electrified" by then, but it must have really stood out of the horizon after dark.
