This one is for SOWNY members who live near Windsor. They might have heard that the jock named "Spike," who was part of the top-rated Mojo In The Morning team on WKQI 95.5 Detroit, issued a weird statement on Monday, telling listeners he was no longer with the station.
He'd been there 23 years and had a reputation as the morning show prankster, pulling off tons of stunts over the years. He thanked fans on Facebook for their loyalty, said it had been fun but never broached the reason for his unexplained - and very sudden - departure.
"I am no longer on the Mojo In The Morning show. For more than 23 years, it has been a dream come true to entertain you. I never took it for granted. It's with much love that I say THANK YOU for your support. Radio is in my blood so to say I'm going to miss it would be a massive understatement."
Saying "radio is in my blood" and "I'll miss it." could indicate he may have somehow burned his bridges in the industry. But anything's possible.
The rest of the team made reference to his absence on their show Monday, but never addressed why he was gone. Strange things happen in radio (i.e. John Derringer) but after nearly a quarter of a century, you'd think listeners deserve to know what happened. I suspect the truth will eventually emerge. It almost always does.
Spike leaves Mojo in the Morning after over 2 decades on Detroit radio

Apparently this is the longest running FM talk morning show in Michigan history at 23 years. Not to be confused with Toronto's old MOJO Radio 640, this one has a host who goes by the nickname of Mojo.
Mojo In The Morning also runs on KISS FM in Toledo, WSNX in Grand Rapids and Hot 98.3 in Tucson AZ. The program had one of it's best books last rating in Detroit on 95.5 WKQI which is the home station.
Mojo In The Morning consists mainly of comedy bits, phone and street scams, outing people cheating on their partners, callers answering questions about their sex lives, couples sharing updates on their relationship struggles and listeners calling to vote if they should break up or stay together. As RA mentioned maybe someone who lives around Windsor and who listens to WKQI has more detail what the program is about and what Spike was like. Judging by the comments on the Michigan Radio Buzzboard his popularity was mixed, but that is kind of normal.
Anyway Spike along with Mojo had been with the show from the start. Rumour has it he will resurface after the non compete portion of the contract has been completed.

It's a typical iHeart Morning show with a morning zoo format with one talented host and several marginal people chiming in. They do the usual prank phone calls that sound fake and they're one of many shows that call a partner who may be cheating and pretend to be a flower shop and offer to send free roses to someone of the cheating partner's choosing while the non-cheating partner waits on mute ready to blast them. It's all pretty low brow and this show in particular tends to punch down with its humor. Eminem has been an occasional caller to the show over the years.

Judging by the comments after the article, he was not well liked. Probably, those posting said comments aren't in the demographic the station is after.
