After a career reporting on news, veteran CP24 morning anchor George Lagogianes is making it, announcing he's leaving broadcasting for retirement at the end of December. Many remember George's early days at MuchMusic as a host and videographer, before his career took him into more mainstream reporting. He's been in the business for a remarkable 36 years, 15 of those with CP24.
I know him as our paths crossed many times over the years and a nicer guy you could not meet. I hope he enjoys his time off - and sleeping in!
More here.

CP24 has changed over the years. People such as Ann Rohmer, Kyle Christie, Patricia Jaggernauth, Pooja Honda and Gurdeep Ahluwalia all left and they were very talented crew members.

Back in the late 80's I wondered why a MuchMusic SUV was often seen around downtown Owen Sound.
Later found out that George was from Owen Sound and his folks ran a pizza shop in town.
George's brother Jim is also in broadcasting and has worked for years at CBC in Windsor. He got his start with CKNX.

Very interesting, I hadn't known this!
Here's a July 1989 vintage ad from the Owen Sound Sun Times that I found with lots of Lagogianes at the bottom of it.

Glad to hear he's a good guy in real life because that's not always the case.
Would be interested to have George appear on an upcoming episode of the Toronto Mike'd Podcast, talking with Mike about the highs and even some of the lows he's had over his career. Maybe even round up some of the original City team and have a roundtable discussion, behind the scenes insights etc.

I met George at Roger Ashby's going away party. Same guy as on your TV. Very friendly and polite. I've seen a lot of people come and go at CP24 mornings. I've always said as long as George is there, I'm there. BTW isn't George a little young to retire? This actually saddens me. Going to miss him.

I'm working on it!
