On March 24, 1965, a game between the Habs and Leafs was an experimental colour broadcast. NBC telecast games 1 and 4 of the 1966 Stanley Cup Final between Detroit and Montreal in colour. I think HNIC began colour broadcasts for the 1966-67 season.

If memory serves, the ice was painted a light blue in Detroit for those colour TV broadcasts in the 1966 final.

The headline should read oldest known surviving colour telecast of an NHL game from 1968. Obviously there were NHL colour telecasts before that time, but the recordings have not survived.
