CTV and their new expensive effort to promote Omar Sachedina

https://twitter.com/CTVNews/status/1586068337641111552?t=3PKAIIYSl1-trsC1lTwiuw&s=19

Friday November 4th, on CTV

Imagine what they had to do to find the funds to do this.

They could have just allowed the audience time to get familiar with Omar as the person who delivers the news, and instead invested the money in the people who create Bell Media's radio and television shows.

Re: CTV and their new expensive effort to promote Omar Sachedina

This year is the 50th anniversary of Idi Amin expelling Asians from Uganda (an act of what we'd now call ethnic cleansing) and Canada's acceptance of 8,000 refugees was the first instance of Canada participating in a major resettlement of non-European refugees. Sure, CTV is covering this as a way of promoting their new anchor but it is actually a significant anniversary that merits attention.

Re: CTV and their new expensive effort to promote Omar Sachedina

They didn't want Lisa LaFlamme using resources to cover the Queen but sending an entire crew to Uganda for a puff piece on an anchor is a good use of shareholder money?
The decision making at that company is getting weirder and weirder.

Re: CTV and their new expensive effort to promote Omar Sachedina

It's money wisely spent. As corporations require access to capital, Mr Sachedina's high visibility position enhances BCE Inc. social rating in the ESG framework. (An order of magnitude beyond what Ms LaFlamme could provide).

Trillions of $$ are accessible only if you satisfy the ESG criteria.

From accounting firm pwc website..

'It's not an exaggeration to say ESG is driving a complete reframe of how we conceptualize value. When we step away from the premise that success is based largely on financial measures, everything is upended. ESG is a new way to think.'

This isn't exactly a well-researched article - a few Twitter posts being used to speak for the majority, which may or may not be the case. But for whatever it's worth, the Toronto Sun has picked up this story.

Lisa LaFlamme fans blast CTV over special devoted to Omar Sachedina
