Four Part Phil Spector Documentary To Air In November

It's not the same as the movie that had Al Pacino chewing the scenery as legendary producer Phil Spector. In this case, the now late music mogul essentially portrays himself in what looks like a very intriguing four part documentary on the infamous man's career, his weird behaviour and the murder that landed him in prison, where he died.

"The series will look at what happened on the fateful night of February 3, 2003 when actress Lana Clarkson was shot dead in his mansion. The victim was a charismatic and once prolific film actress whom Spector had met just that night. Through the lens of this notorious crime and the infamous trial which followed, the explores the stories of both Clarkson and the man who was convicted of her murder."

I wish they would concentrate more on his musical accomplishments and not just the sensational murder, but I suppose it would be naive to expect anything else. Sad as it was, that's one of the most compelling parts of his story and the one that ended it.

It's airing on pay cabler Showtime in the U.S. beginning November 4th, but I can't help but believe someone - likely Crave - will pick up the rights to it here. Something to keep an eye out for if this tortured man's life holds any interest for you.

If this had been done by PBS, I suspect they would have done a more balanced presentation of his life rather than concentrating on his sad ending.

The murder is the hook, if you will, but in four parts, they're almost certainly going to have to tell his music story, as well. At least I hope they will! That's a fascinating and huge part of his life.

All four parts are now on Crave, if you subscribe to the service. Showtime in the U.S. starts showing it in weekly segments on Sunday, Nov. 6th. Note that this is not a fictionalized movie, like the Al Pacino flick. It's a documentary, using vintage footage and interviews about one of the most creative - and ultimately crazy - people in rock music history.
