I'm not sure we've quite reached this point in Canada yet, because just about everything is on either TSN or Sportsnet. But this article from The Atlantic argues that it's getting progressively harder to follow your favourite sports league when they're turning up in too many different places - all of which, of course, you have to pay for separately.
A possible preview of our future?
"Starting this fall, the league will put Thursday Night Football exclusively on Amazon Prime Video, the first time the NFL has pulled a game off TV to put it somewhere else. The Big Ten, the richest conference in college athletics, will soon air eight football games and dozens of men’s and women’s basketball games on Peacock exclusively each year. Other sports leagues are already there.
"This year, MLB started showing a Friday game on Apple TV+ (for free, with a login required, and another Sunday-morning game is paywalled on Peacock. That service is already a must-have for American fans of the English Premier League who do not want to hunt for bootleg streams. But if you’re a fan of Europe’s other big soccer leagues, they’re on ESPN+, the same place you’ll also find early-tournament PGA Tour rounds and a healthy chunk of the NHL."

One thing that many may not be aware of. Part of the Amazon and MNF NFL agreements is that fans in the home and visiting team markets will be able to view the games OTA on a local network affilliate. Bell no longer owns the rights to the Thursday games, so the only game we will see here is Dec 1 when Buffalo plays N.E. I suspect WKBW or WUTV will carry the game. NBC and CBS have strong Thursday night programming. I don't think WGRZ and WIVB would want to preempt their lineup.

TSN will still have the Thursday night games

Thanks for the info. I was not aware of this.

We're still in the experimentation stage of sports streaming. I doubt following your team will require multiple subscriptions in the future.

That writer is complaining but TSN and Sportsnet charge $19.99 and $34.99 respectively for their streams. ESPN charges $6.99, Peacock charges $4.99 for the sports tier, and Apple TV is free with a login. So it's $12 bucks in the US vs. $55 in Canada. Poor them.
