I did not know Derringers real name was Hayes.

According to the Wikipedia article about him, he changed his last name to Derringer because his brother, Bill Hayes, was in the radio broadcast business and John chose to have a different last name.

And there was also John Hayes, the NBC executive famous for firing Howard Stern. Ironically, Hayes was president of the radio division of Corus from 2001 - 2008, just after Derringer joined Q107.
