Yes, I know this is from the National Post, which has a hate on for the Corp., but it's more about questioning the CRTC's new mandates, which - in an effort to encourage diversity at the CBC - may have an unintended effect on its future programming and hiring.
Do you like this policy or should hiring and decisions be based solely on qualifications? It's a question many companies beyond the CBC are struggling to answer.
Do CRTC diversity quotas trample journalistic independence at CBC?

I have always believed the most qualified candidate should get the job. If that happens to be a visibility, he/she should be employed in the offered position. However, I do not agree that the qualifications necessary for the job should be lowered to make it easier for visible minorities to get the job.

The premise in the first sentence is so stupid that's where I stopped.
You share every half-baked opinion piece the National Post publishes about the CBC. Can we agree that the majority of the posters here hate the CBC no matter it does and move on?
The CBC offers niche programming.
Outrage! What a waste of our tax dollars! No one will watch that garbage!
The CBC offers mainstream programming.
Outrage! They're competing with private broadcasters! What a waste of our tax dollars!
The CBC runs a cable news channel.
Outrage! It should be free! Our tax dollars fund it! (They don't. Advertising dollars and carriage fees do)
The CBC announces a free streaming news channel.
Outrage! They already have the cable news channel that should be free! Our tax dollars fund that! (NO THEY DON'T.)
The 1930's until the 2000's.
Outrage! The CBC has a liberal bias and it's run by gay and lesbian tree huggers!
The 2000's
Stephen Harper replaces the majority of the board with conservative appointees, most of whom are still there.
Outrage! The CBC has a liberal bias and it's run by gay and lesbian tree huggers!
The 1930's until the 1980's. The CBC hires university educated white men for most key positions, on air and off.
Outrage! The CBC is elitist and doesn't represent all Canadians!
The 1980's until now. The CBC begins hiring people of different skin colors and backgrounds to represent a cross section of Canadians.
Outrage! Diversity quotas trample journalistic independence!
Zzzzzz.

Two quick corrections.
I don't share every half-baked opinion on the CBC, just the fully baked ones! Actually, I rarely share the National Post's articles on the CBC or this forum would be filled with them, since they seem to publish one every day. It would be tough for you to find the last one highlighted here from that source.
I just found this particular one interesting. And if you'll notice, nowhere did I say I agreed with it. I wondered what some thought of the premise. But you admit you didn't read past the first sentence, so there was no way you could have known that.
Second, if you HAD read the whole thing, I believe you would have noticed that the piece was more a criticism of the CRTC's policy directives than it was about the CBC. They are obliged to do what they're directed by the regulator. I can't blame the CBC for that. I thought the story was more of a CRTC critique than anything about the Corporation.
