An Absolutely Astounding Site For Radio & TV History

There's nothing like reading the history of a medium as it was happening. Imagine being able to open a magazine or an industry newspaper from the beginning of, say, the Top 40 rock and roll era and reading what they were talking about or predicting at that time.

Well, now you can. And really, have been able to for some time. I'm not sure if I've ever mentioned the World Radio TV History site before, but it has scanned pages from hundreds if not thousands of old radio, TV, music, consumer electronics, engineering, ham radio and media magazines and publications dating back as far as the 1920s.

There are sections devoted to each medium, copious books dedicated to DX-ing, encyclopedias of TV and radio, shortwave, reproductions of RPM and Broadcaster Magazines (both from Canada,) Billboard and Cashbox pages, old ratings books and more. Just going through the listings can take half an hour, if you're not tempted to click on something first.

Well worth a look if you've never seen it and a wonderful (and searchable) web-based resource to trace the history of just about anything media related. (For example, you could do a search for the call letters "CHUM" and hundreds of links come up all the way back to when the station first signed on and into its glory years as a rock and roll powerhouse.) And of course, it's all free.

Have fun, but be warned - this is a classic time waster for some!

That's some primitive web page design...

Maybe, but what's on it and the simple breadth of material makes that easy to overlook.
