Rare DX Topic Surfaces On A Local Talk Show

There aren't many times you hear a host venture into a discussion about other radio stations. It's even stranger to refer to those you can't hear because the one he's currently on is in the way. Tom McConnell's show on CKTB is nothing if not unusual.

On Thursday, the longtime afternoon St. Catharines host was discussing our apparent swearing Prime Minister, when the conversation veered into what other places you're not traditionally allowed to utter profanities - and radio came up. He mentioned there were at least two other 610s that listeners can't hear because CKTB is in the way. One is in Columbus, Ohio (WTVN) while the other he talked about is in Philadelphia, where WTEL has been on the air for more than 100 years. (Another station celebrating that milestone this year, although it was known then as WIP.)

Nothing McConnell said was especially illuminating, but it was just odd to hear a host shout out those sharing the same frequency with him - even if most listeners likely had no idea what he was talking about.

Re: Rare DX Topic Surfaces On A Local Talk Show

Over the years, I have heard both the Columbus and Philly stations with a GE Super Radio II. If the radio was turned at a certain angle, I was able to null a good portion of the CKTB signal.
