If you've ever watched CityNews, you probably remember the name Nigel Newlove. The reporter with that unique moniker was a correspondent for City TV based out of Ottawa. But earlier this month, he was let go from the station after what Broadcast Dialogue describes as a "heated interaction with trucker convoy protestors."
It's not entirely evident what happened because the video has been removed from the web - or at least I haven't been able to find it. But it's clear the brass at Rogers didn't think it was appropriate.
"Dave Budge Vice-President of News & Information, for Rogers Sports & Media, called the conversation “unprovoked and unprofessional” in an internal memo to employees," Broadcast Dialogue reports.
Does anyone know what happened here? So far, there's no word on whether the departed Mr. Newlove has landed another gig.

EzraVision has the video, of course.
Is CityNews unionized because you'd think he'd be able to grieve his dismissal. I can see being reprimanded or even suspended for a day but firing the guy seems a bit extreme.

It certainly does look like he went there spoiling for a fight. I wonder if there was a specific incident that led up to it?
