Canadian Series "Transplant" Season 2 Gets NBC Premiere Date

It's being given a Sunday position, which is actually one of network TV's biggest nights.

Sunday is only strong because of NFL football.  In March there ain't no NFL and not a big night for NBC at all.  The Weakest Link is a tired retread of a show with low ratings and a dreadful lead in for a scripted drama..  The audiences for these two shows couldn't be much different. Good luck Transplant, NBC is doing you no favours.

Re: Canadian Series "Transplant" Season 2 Gets NBC Premiere Date

Sunday was traditionally one of the highest HUT nights (Homes Using Television) of the week. People are winding down their weekends and turning on the tube.

Traditionally, the two biggest TV nights were Thursday and Sunday. It's possible that with all the changes in the industry, that might be different now, but that was the wisdom for years, right or wrong. (It's why the ads for new movies always came out on a Thursday night in primetime. Again, that was then. Not sure about now but with streaming and COVID closures, movie ads have pretty much come to a screeching halt.)

But I don't disagree that it's a lousy lead in. At least there won't be any NFL competition going against it.

I don't think Sunday prime time has been a big ratings night for quite a few  years.  NFL football as popular as it is has played havoc with Saturday and Sunday evening schedules.  Football can be a great lead in for a show, but also can hurt the rest of the evening since shows often begin off of their regular time because a game went overtime or finished late.  True Transplant doesn't need to compete with NFL but it also means that NBC will have next to no viewers on Sunday night.  Especially with shows like The Weakest Link.

I believe now that the NFL is done for another season, 60 Minutes and The Equalizer should keep many eyeballs tuned to CBS for much of Sunday primetime.

Transplant has been renewed for a third season in Canada. Whether that third season will get exposure on NBC may well depend on how well it does when the American network starts unspooling season 2 on March 6th.
