His real name was Marvin Lee Aday and his "Bat Out Of Hell" LP was not only a smash hit, selling 40 million copies, but was also turned into a major theatrical production. He was 74.

It has been a terrible month for the music industry. Consider:
In addition to Meat Loaf, we lost:
-R. Dean Taylor,
-Ronnie Spector,
-Sonny Turner,
-Rosa Lee Hawkins (of the Dixie Cups' "Chapel of Love") and
-Fred Parris, lead singer and composer of the Five Satins' classic "In The Still of the Night."
What a tragic list.
And the month isn't over.

I was fortunate to interview Meat; when the album broke. It took place at Q-107. Later I would speak to him again at CHUM-FM

If there's a Rock and Roll heaven, you know they got a hell of a band!

I have just this moment, figured out what he meant when he sang he'd do anything for love, but he won't do that.
RIP sir, and thanks for the great music to make out to when I was teenager, and never got tired of throwing on the turntable during my radio days.

Despite Phil Rizzuto saying he didn't understand what his baseball play-by-play in "Paradise By The Dashboard Light" really meant, Meat Loaf insisted he always knew exactly what he was saying - and why.
“Phil was no dummy -- he knew exactly what was going on, and he told me such,” Meat Loaf told ESPN in 2007. “He was just getting some heat from a priest and felt like he had to do something. I totally understood. But I believe Phil was proud of that song and his participation.”
Despite the infamy of the call, the linked article notes there's an error in it that has never really been addressed.

there's a line in this story about his passing and covid but I didn't have the heart to click on it
what are the chances we're now going to get a big budget life story of Meat Loaf movie in the same vein as the Elton John biopic Rocket Man and the latest one about Pam and Tommy. they'll cast the next young stud actor and Bob's your uncle, "Anything For Love" coming to HBO in 2024...

From the Oldies Board comes word that Meatloaf's first hit, "Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad," was actually slightly sped up in order to fit the entire "Bat Out Of Hell" album on vinyl. In a 2016 never-before-published interview, the late singer claimed he couldn't stand hearing it on the radio, and it was almost impossible for him to recreate on stage, because he thought it made him sound like Alvin & The Chipmunks! Now that is a great bit of trivia.
