It's the third or fourth week that Jim Richards has been off overnights and into the afternoon drive slot on NT1010. Perhaps they're still looking for the right fit for Jay Michaels' new partner. Or perhaps they've already hired someone and will introduce that person in the new year.
But I'm beginning to wonder if Richards has escaped the overnight graveyard and will now be the de facto second voice on The Rush from this point forward.
Other than a few one-or-two-day fill-ins (Tamara Cherry among them), he's been there consistently. I know they said he would be back doing the overnight thing, but is it possible they've found their permanent replacement?
One clue that appears to negate that guess, though, is that their names are still on the website in their old timeslots. So we'll see how long this arrangement lasts.

New PD, if that's anything to consider.

I was curious how David Cooper, who was previously Richards' sidekick on "The Late Showgram" and is now hosting that solo, is positioning Richards' absence from the very show created as a vehicle for Richards. Cooper is actually directing listeners to stream "The Rush" live (within the first two minutes of this audio) on Newstalk 1010 if they want their Richards fix. (Curious for a network show across a half dozen of their stations.) At least Cooper is only introduced as "special guest host" in the voiceover and Cooper said "I'll be around tonight, this week and a little into the new year."
Seems like they'll make a decision in the new year one way or the other. Or already have and are soft-launching/testing the Jay and Jim combo?

Rotating guest co-hosts could be a good idea for the immediate future.
There's a brightness and energy in Jay Michaels when he's working with Amanda Galbraith or other guest co-hosts that isn't there as much during his time co-hosting the Rush with Jim Richards. Maybe Jim's laid back low key more FM radio vibe doesn't naturally mesh with Jay's upbeat radio personality.
They work well together, get along fine, but the chemistry that John Moore has with Robert Turner and Jay had with Ryan, isn't quite there yet.
Being officially announced as the new The Rush co-hosts might be what it takes for them to find that chemistry.
The holidays couldn't have come at a better time, it gives the new PD even more room to get it right.

That's a very confusing statement for anyone under 50, who know Jay solely for his upbeat FM vibe.

pretty sure those under 50 will get the gist, and I'd be interested in what others think of the current chemistry between Jay and Jim 😏

I'm a little late seeing this post (as it was posted 12 days back), but I was checking out the Reddit thread on the 1010 "The Rush" situation this morning. I don't have any reason to doubt that poster, but it's not verifiable either so take it as you will:

thanks for the link to Reddit, AspectRadio, I clicked and went over and read a fair amount of what people were saying, pretty much along the same lines as what's been said here, tho someone posted that just before Ryan exited the show for the final time, he was off for a while and then came back on-air and said he'd been away dealing with ulcerative colitis?
The folks on Reddit do NOT like Jerry, think John Moore is terrific, and everyone hates the way Bell Media handles the 1010 employees.
Can't wait to hear what special Christmassy features 1010 whips up for listeners, last year I think? it was clips of each host talking about what the holiday means to them, ho ho ho " just happy I am still employed" won't get said out loud but.... it's got to be a very Black Adder vibe at that station this year.

Yeah - I read the same thing over there, betaylored re: the health issue. Might be telling, too, that his LinkedIn now has a December 2021 end-date on both entries. Still wondering if he'll resurface, but on 640 in the John Oakley slot.
Yeah, man, those "Best Of's" done for both Christmas and New Year's - I wonder if "The Rush" will draw from the tiny pool of "Jim & Jay" time. Maybe dust off some of those "Feels like Christmas" treacly spots. Bill Carroll used to call him alternatively "Forrest Gump" and "Gimp Forster".
