The Man Who Helped Create Media Exploitation Gets A 4-Hr. PBS Special

You may not know the name William Randolph Hearst, but you've almost certainly heard about the fictional movie based on his life: Citizen Kane. Now the story behind the man who helped create exploitive tabloid media comes to PBS' American Experience in a 2-part 4-hour special that examines his life, his methods, his excesses and his impact on the media we see today.

The trailer looks pretty good. And there's a 9-minute look at Part 2 here

If this interests you, the documentary airs on WNED in Buffalo Monday, Sept. 27th at 9 PM, with part 2 the following night at the same time. There is also one replay - early on Sept. 30th from midnight to 4 AM.

This greedy and over-the-top mogul had an enormous and not always good influence on the news media. But the echoes of what his newspapers did can't be denied.

-30- (or in this case, perhaps - Rosebud - is more appropriate...)
