Re: NFL TV Rights Shakeup

What does this mean in Canada? Is it still Amazon for Thursdays? Or does TSN still hold special rights here?

...while “Thursday Night Football” will move to Amazon more exclusively, with no broadcast TV partner on board...

drip...drip...drip.

The potential to serve each viewer with targeted ads during live NFL broadcasts is huge. The networks could do it eventually, Amazon can do it sooner, and YouTube could do it tomorrow.

Re: NFL TV Rights Shakeup

As I understand it, the NFL negotiates a separate deal with Canadian broadcasters. CTV/TSN has access to all Sunday 1pm and 4pm games. With timeshifting, there can be a wide variety of games to view. Regarding the Thursday games, every team must make at least one appearance and since all of these games will be available  OTA in the home and visiting teams markets at least one Bills and one Seahawks game will be viewable. Where does the NFL Network end up here?  There will be some "dog" Thursday matchups. Perhaps those games might get a thumbs down by Amazon and end up on NFL Net.

TSN has the Thursday, Sunday and Monday night games as well.

"The NFL will nearly double its media revenue to more than $10 billion a season with new rights agreements announced Thursday, including a deal with Amazon Prime Video that gives the streaming service exclusive rights to “Thursday Night Football” beginning in 2022."

Where does it read that TSN gets to keep Canadian rights?

That's a wire story from CP that originated from AP that originated from a press release. Canadian rights are rarely mentioned in such stories.

That's the TSN website though. So if they had the rights to Thursday games they would have said so.

I wouldn't assume that.  Web people are often very separate from programming.  They may not know or simply wouldn't bother to localize a wire story.  US and Canadian rights, especially when it comes to digital, are completely different.

Also, that whole process is likely at least partially automated.

Okay, all good points, but it's still very important to let people know (in Canada) that TSN is the place to be.
So far all I see is Amazon is the place to be...VPN...if necessary.
