What The Media Will Do The Day Queen Elizabeth Dies

The Queen, who is 94, seems like she may go on forever. But everyone has their time and when hers comes, it will be a huge story. What will the media do? I've often wondered about how they've prepped for this inevitable story.

While it's certain to be a huge headline worldwide, and American networks will almost certainly temporarily interrupt coverage to report the story, it's not likely to lead to wall-to-wall coverage stateside, except on the cable networks.

What happens in Canada is another matter. I'm 100% sure CTV and especially the CBC already have obits and tributes ready. And they may go with the story for many hours.

But it's in Britain that this sad future event will get the biggest play.

"Every media outlet is prepared for the news. Every radio station has a network of lights that will flash to indicate a national catastrophe such as this. All BBC shows will stop and proceed to run a feed dedicated to the news.

"Newsreaders will change into the black suits and clothing that is on hand at all times in the news studio, and the traditional red BBC News branding will turn black. Newspapers, TV channels, and radio stations have days of coverage ready to go."

"...the BBC will refrain from playing comedy shows as a sign of respect until after the funeral."

Here's what will happen when Queen Elizabeth II dies

I remember when Princess Diana died, CNN had wall-to-wall coverage for days. Of course, the circumstances of her death added a whole other layer to the coverage.

The trashy, tabloid, entertainment shows will run the story for at least a month. As though the death of an old lady was entertainment.

I started out with nothing and I still have most of it.

The Monarchy reminds me of right-wing talk radio...old white people with corgi dogs yelling at clouds, socialism is the antichrist, and thinking coloured folks should be used as 'the help'...

Those coins might look something like these:

And our $20 bill:

Of course, if there's an abdication, Charles won't be on the money.

Hahaha!  Great photos of Charles MJ Vancouver. He always looks so surprised, or perplexed in many photos.  There is always the possibility that Charles won't actually become King and defer to William. Somewhat unlikely but still a possibility since Charles is not a young man.

Well, when the The Queen does pass it certainly will be big news around the world.  Even after death, past events, unknown facts, possibly good and bad may surface regarding her.  But as it sits now, she has reined longer than anyone,  largely with no wrongdoing or scandal personally, and she has handled the job and everything that comes with it with grace. Her Majesty agree or not, has set the standard of how a head of state should act and conduct the role.  Nobody has done it better.

Media coverage certainly news channels and possibly many networks be wall to wall almost everywhere because her passing truly is the end of THE era.

It will be interesting if countries like Canada, Australia and New Zealand eventually consider leaving the Commonwealth.  Australia has gone further than most with a referendum in 1999 to become a Republic and amend it's constitution.  The proposal was defeated by 60% of voting Australians opting to remain a constitutional monarchy.  And in Australia, the calls to leave the monarchy have been much stronger than in Canada for years.  However any change would be slow and any amending of the constitution complicated.

I am sure the obits and most of the programming for the Queen's passing has been in the can for a while.  Reliving and remembering her life will be a real history lesson.

What would really be something in today's age, is if the streaming platforms shuttered for the day. Imagine the millennial horror opening up a dark netflix.com or a silent apple music? I wouldn't bet on it.. in fact, I would bet against that, but who knows!

With her Majesty's husband being transferred to another hospital today for further care re: his heart let's hope media doesn't get a trial run.

Imagine if (heaven forbid) Meghan and Harry were to separate/divorce, British tabs and legit news outlets would have a field day, and it might possibly break social media platforms for a few minutes.

Wish one of 1010's or 640's radio hosts would take a look at your dark scenario torontostan, and play around with it. A bit of brainy imagination and conversation would make a nice content change.

They're not Canadian or British. Why would they shut down for the day?

Re: What The Media Will Do The Day Queen Elizabeth Dies

I remember producing a show on TALK 640 the night Princess Diana died, the phones lit up like a Christmas tree and we extended the show until 3 am...calls were ranging from sadness, to shock to downright  anger.

Our technical whiz that night was Gary Bell (from a View from Space), he had a theory about this death and what was supposedly the cause.

The late Gary Bell also tackled the death of the Queen on his show a few years ago...it will be huge, but steeped in some conspiracy as you can well imagine, thus paving the way for the Anti-Christ...

Prince Charles, is scary looking on MJ's picture of the $20 bill, but Bell believed one of his 2 sons would have the mantle of the Anti-Christ.

Gary, was good at what he did, but I didn't always buy in.

The world would be so good if it weren't for some people...

It wouldn’t be any worse than the boomer horror of turning on a silent 640 or 1010 around here.
