When Radio Really Earns Its Keep

The power is off.

It's freezing inside and outside.

Cell towers are intermittent and you can't charge your phone in any event.

There's no water.

And no answers about when any of them will come back.

Welcome to the state of Texas, which turned into a state of emergency thanks to some terrible winter weather.  And while many have written off radio as a relic of the past, it's still the go-to medium when everything else is down.

As Texas Freezes, Radio Scrambles to Stay On Air & Pivot From Music to Emergency Programming

Re: When Radio Really Earns Its Keep

I remember the long blackout in August 2003 and the cold winter ice storm one at Christmas 2013 and all that held me to what was going on was a tiny, radio that needed 3 AA batteries.      Something I found in a drawer!    In '03 I remember listening to Spider Jones on CFRB!    Call in show.      In 2013, it wasn't that much different.   Same basic tech!   LOL!    36 hours without power at Yonge / St. Clair.    Making memories.    The same radio too.

Without power it's difficult to listen to the radio. Hopefully some people had batteries and or a crank radio

No shortage of cranks on the radio.
