Breaking News on Newstalk 1010......Hello anybody there?

With their newsroom all but destroyed, how will 1010 cover a big breaking local news story such as a huge storm,
train derailment,  massive blackout, etc especially during evenings and weekends?  Will the newsroom post a sign
saying “Gone Fishing”?  I recall CFRB’s legendary coverage of Hurricane Hazel, the Mississauga train derailment,
the blackouts of 1965 and 2003.  When you have power you’ve got your devices and TV but what about those times
when there is no power or you are driving in your car? Will 680 news be your only option?  They are fine for headlines
but they do not offer wall to wall coverage.  Any comments?

Reports will be shared from the CTV / CP24 side to radio.

Lets hope nothing big breaks after 5 pm or when the TV reporter is on vacation!

Remember back in 2009 to 2011 when 1050 CHUM was a 24 hour simulcast of CP24?

All too well.

Hi @Bentwater - Tardis is correct. Here's Dave Agar's twitter thread on asking his name be removed.

As well, here's an image of the plaque:

1010 used to have a "breaking news" editor. He actually left to anchor the morning news on 640 a couple months ago. Good timing on his part.

Apparently, yes. And it's already happened, less than a week into this thing. A major incident in Mount Albert has left two people dead, one of stab wounds and another after being shot by police. Three others- including a baby and a young child - have been wounded. The SIU is on the case and it's a developing and breaking story.

But unless CP picks it up on its hourly newscast, I'm guessing you won't be hearing about it on CFRB at least until tomorrow morning.

Two people dead, including one shot by police, in York Region; 3 hurt including infant, young child

Re: Breaking News on Newstalk 1010......Hello anybody there?

Looks like people will visit Newstalk 1010's app to get the story if it is not going to be covered on air. They posted the story at 4:05 this afternoon.  CP24, 680 News, Star, Sun, Global News Radio, CTV and CBC websites all have the story.  I wonder if Newstalk 1010 has a rebranding on air  coming up with less emphasis on news and more on talk, features and opinion?

What an honour for Dave to be recognized for what he represented to his listeners, the respect of his colleagues and the sentiments of the previous long haulers at RB.  Dave's plaque is a piece of history that I hope someone scoops.  He may not want it now, but, after the sting subsides, maybe he'll value it knowing he was counted on for delivering trusted radio news and well thought out informed views.  He's a big part of radio's history.

Agreed. I always enjoyed Agar's morning banter on 1010 when he joined Robert Turner on the 5:00-5:30 am "Early Edition" (now toasted also as of this past week).

Former news director Dave Trafford always jokes you had to be named a "Dave" to work in 1010's newsroom. At various times they had:

David Bent
Dave Bradley
Dave Trafford
Dave Agar
David McKee
David Woodard
David Craig
And at one point Dave Hodge and Dave Quinn on sports
