I really enjoyed that Alex Trebek tribute special that aired on ABC Sunday night. I don’t know if anyone else noticed this, but around the 15:30 mark of the show, there was a single shot of an old photo that stopped me in my tracks when I saw it.
It was so great, I actually stopped and went back to see it again, just to make sure it was what I thought it was.
And it was!
It was a picture, obviously taken a very long time ago, that showed Alex Trebek interviewing what I'm pretty sure is a very young David Marsden, in his Dave Mickie persona. And if you look closely, there’s also a photo in the background of Bob McAdorey.
Imagine – three local broadcasting icons in a single picture. It likely meant nothing to an ABC audience. But for Toronto radio fans, what an amazing snapshot of three greats forever frozen in time.

Wow! Thanks for sharing. Alex and I worked together on Music Hop Toronto CBC Network for the first year. The day of the 2nd season launch Alex had an appendix attack. He missed the first of the second season and didn't return to the show. (I do not know the back-story on that) I think we did another 4 seasons.
I have no recollection of where, when and why this pic was taken.
Music Hop was the launching pad for many artists - including: Gordon Lightfoot, David Clayton Thomas, Shawn and Jay Jackson and many more.
Stan Jacobson was the Producer of Music Hop. He later went on to Produce the wonderful program - Hello! I'm Johnny Cash. It was produced at a US Network.
Last night on my show I told a few stories from those days about Alex and I. 80 years ain't bad. God Speed Alex....RIP

Thanks for weighing in on this shot. Did McAdorey make appearances on the show? I wonder why his pic was in the background. Anyway, a great memory. Thanks for sharing. It's posts like this that makes me appreciate this board so much.

Thanks again RadioActive - I really don't have any idea of this picture. Where it happened, nor why or when. And I have no memory of Bob McAdorey being involved with the Music Hop Show.
There appears to be a giant letter - C - just above Alex's arm . That would tie McAdorey into the shot. However, I never worked at CHUM - AM. And so it remains a mystery.
The other question is - what is the something that Alex and I are looking at just off camera to the left?
BTW - I am stunned by the number of folks who have mentioned seeing this picture during the ABC TV show.

The strangest part is that it was only up for about 3 seconds on screen. But apparently that was long enough! To be honest, I first noticed the McAdorey picture in the background before recognizing who it was in the foreground! For a still photo, there's an awful lot going on in that pic!
Could that mystery "C" be part of the initials CBC? Or perhaps the last letter in the word "Music" in "Music Hop?" I guess we'll never know. And I don't recognize those other people pictured in the background, although one appears to be named "Frank" something. (And no, G. Cheese, I'm positive it's not Frank D'Angelo!)
