TSN 1050/1150 & Sportsnet 590: It Was Fun While It Lasted

The Leafs have fallen.

The Raptors were bounced.

The Jays have been called out.

The Argos never even started rowing.

The NBA season is almost over and so is MLB.

Now what will the local sports stations have to talk about? Only the NFL is left (and that could change if the virus spreads among teams.)  It seems like these stations are right back where they started from when the pandemic first began and all major sports were suspended.

The NHL, which ended its delayed season at a time when it should just be getting underway, has said it won't be back until at least January. It's hard to say when the NBA will return once the finals are over. And the Jays will be off the field until April - all of which is contingent on getting the virus back under control.

True, there's still tennis and golf. But they're hardly matches made for radio. And now the format that used to depend on hockey, basketball and baseball play-by-play to get their numbers up in the fall book will be hamstrung again. It was a tough spring for the all sports stations, who essentially found themselves with no sports to talk about.

Now they're facing the same dilemma again. I can only wonder how they will fill all those hours and hours and hours during what will be another endless void of almost no major leagues playing. I have to say I feel sorry for the hosts, who will soon be tapdancing at least until the spring. And I suspect the ratings will reflect it.

The mainstream sports radio stations should start covering pro wresting.

Still think it would be great if TSN 1050 played Roger Ashby's oldies show at some point over the weekend. They don't have a lot going on right now!  It would certainly pick up a few listeners for them and totally appropriate since Ashby's oldies show started at 1050 chum. They could even stick in the odd old chum jingle.  Also gives the hosts something to talk about and promote during the week.  Get Roger in for an interview!  This is kind of an obvious thing to do is it not??  Also gives the show a Toronto home for the program.

Love the creativity in the first four lines. You could replace the sign man at Flyer games.

At least pro wrestling is real; Politics is all staged and planned.

You know what? Actual Golf audio might not work, but a golf talk show (On TSN 1050), complete with reminders that they can catch golf on TSN might be good filler...? (Just throwing ideas out there...)

They do have Golf Talk Canada which is on for two hours 8-10 Saturday mornings.  My brother listens to it and thinks it is a good show.
They have lots of time for Ashby's oldies show on weekends...

Back to the days (MLB and NHL shutdowns) of Spelling Bees and Dog Shows?

Is Greg Carrasco aware of this?

He's only aware of himself and his mirror.

The NFL is on, it is draft day in the NHL mid week, the baseball playoffs are in round two, the NBA finals are on, then it is free agency day in the NHL next weekend too!

I'd say we're good to go until the end of October and then we've got an election and all kinds of sporting events after that. Like, riots in the streets, mudslinging, fake news Olympics and SNL skits galore...

Buckle in, get the popcorn, enjoy the show...

By mid-November, we will be in need of a break from everything!

The world would be so good if it weren't for some people...
