chick -fil-a, eh?

Opening promotion that's bound to succeed, particularly with every talk show host adding to the excitement.     By the way, what's special about their chicken sandwich?

Eat first, ask questions later.

Re: chick -fil-a, eh?

Once again instead of referring them to the Sales Department, on-air hosts are falling all over themselves giving a big  American company millions of dollars in free publicity. Second time this week after Popeye's, following the Pumpkin Spice freebie last week.

(Hint to hosts: if you don't give them all those lovely FREE on-air mentions, maybe they'll have to buy time and you won't get fired as fast for going over the salary ceiling!)

Sigh.

Adding to what you just mentioned, rent is crazy high where Chick-fil-a chose to open.
Not having to pay for advertising is EXACTLY how they can afford to pay the high rent to be where they are currently.

I know nothing about their lease arrangement, but I do believe that once they have to start paying for advertising, they may have to relocate in Toronto to a lower rent space...one that would open first before the Bloor location closes. (should it come to that...)

Re: chick -fil-a, eh?

According to a CBC report by Meagan Fitzpatrick the first location in Toronto (which has been the centre of today's coverage) is owned by a franchisee.

It is not a sole U.S. corporate parent endeavor.

Re: chick -fil-a, eh?

Wonder how (or if) the parent would react if the franchise sponsored Pride...

Re: chick -fil-a, eh?

Not sure...Protestors assembled today were representing LGBTQ rights, and animal rights...  so it would appear that the Cathy family can draw the ire of various interest groups.

Would the franchisee not have to agree / adhere to a list of corporate policies and standards as it relates to promotion / sponsorship / brand image / or corporate identity?

Marc Weisblott used to call this Tim Hortons journalism.  I now know what he actually meant...
