When A Radio Station Takes International Women's Day Too Far

This is either a great publicity stunt or political correctness gone insane. According to the British tabloid newspaper The Sun, a regional BBC station in Newcastle, England decided to celebrate International Women's Day by banning any men from entering the building - even those who work and are on air there - and replace them all with female announcers, including some who have no radio experience.

Not only that, but they won't play any songs by male artists for the entire day and if they do a talk segment, only calls from women will be taken.

According to the paper, the reaction has not been positive.

"A source said: “This is so offensive not only to the professional DJ’s who are being paid not to work but also all women.

“To imply women don’t like listening to male artists is ludicrous.

“Surely the point of women’s day isn’t to ban men? Imagine the outrage if it was the other way round.”

Brilliant programming or beyond stupid?

Yeah, I have to admit I thought of that, too.

But I checked the BBC Newcastle website and apparently, it's true.

Especially on a Friday! (If this were a TV show, would it be, "Better NOT Call Saul?")

So far beyond stupid, in fact, that it'll probably become common place at some worldwide outlets by next year.  Radio is so good at shooting itself in the foot that this HAS to fly.

Long as I get royalties fior use of my name, they can call it (almost) anything they want

Yes...definitely/absolutely.  [as I would any Air Canada flight I could avoid taking.]
