I'm finding it very hard to maintain interest in AM 960. They are covering a hockey game but do they really need a tin can over their mouth when they talk? lol

You're definitely in DXer's paradise Paul. The noise floor is almost non-existent. You've also got the elevation for some of those nice FM catches that you shared earlier this year.
The noise floor is well hidden.. i sit in the woods near a walking path behind my house. My radio is not made really for AM, but more for SW.. if i had a radio designed for AM.. it'd be even better.

I came across this site while searching for info on sauga 960am. After a phone call, I think I have answers for some of you. Turns out, even though it was bought 7 years ago by Elliott Kerr, he didn't have time to put something together. He ended up finding co-owners this past year and they actually run the station.
From my understanding, after listening to the online stream, they do hourly news updates 12pm-7pm and every half hour after 4pm. There's an evening drive show from 4-7. The guy is really awkward but the female, I believe, is the new co-owner's daughter. There will be a morning show starting in mid October and there's a 7pm-10pm show with a political/issue tackling guy. He's... interesting.
Being owned by the Steelheads owner, expect lots of coverage and game broadcasts on weekends.
Looks like there's actually two studios running it, as I've seen from a live feed on Facebook. They're using SAM at the one with the morning and 7pm show I think, not Winamp. There seems to be a wide range of music genres and pre-taped shows in between.
Hope this info helps.

Here's a bit of CKNT 960 as heard on October 15, 2018 in Ridgway, Pennsylvania about 150-160 miles away from the transmitter.
Here they are at 915am with the bumper music going into a break and a commercial:
Here at 919am, is an ad for a mayor, leading back into the talk program:
Tecsun PL880, 300 foot longwire and signal preamp.

When all is said and done, election time is absolutely the BEST time to finally be up and running.
Ad revenue should be good for the station, that is, if it is agreed that they have an actual audience for their talk programming...

If there are new co-owners would they not have to apply to the CRTC especially if there was an effective change in control. If true and the CRTC gets wind they could be gone before they really get going.

This station wasnt even audible last night in Etobicoke...were talking the east side of the airport area. There was another american station taking it completely over in/out fading. This is another issue of CKNT past 8pm.

I'm guessing it might have been WFIR Roanoke, Virginia, which is the station that usually comes in on that frequency in Toronto. I can get CKNT at night here in northern North York, but it's fading, not strong, and frankly, given their programming - why would I want to?

With [94 + 47] = 141 recent posts from Ridgway Penn. to Richmond Hill, ON, could it be that the medium is in fact the message?

It's usually only good for 30-60 seconds at a time with WKVX Wooster, OH, WATS Sayre, PA and WHYL Carlisle PA showing up too.

Well aware of the site, it was discussed in another CKNT thread. I like to scan the dial for distant signals rather then listen online, sometimes.

Just clicked on the site to see what's up and I heard some grunge and then My Sharona. In between the two tracks was an ad ( or PSA ?) for the electoral campaign of former Sowny member Bruce Marshall.
The highlight of the website and this is a direct quote, lets try and figure out what they are undergoing:
“Our Website is currently undergoing”

Well, I guess that's a lot better than "our website is currently going under."
If it continues as it is, I'm afraid the station might, too,

Here's another short snippet of CKNT heard at 625pm Mon Oct 22nd in Ridgway, PA about 155 miles away

They play a lot of music as a Peel branded news and talk station. Hopefully, their talk programming will be a compelling reason to listen to 960 am in Mississauga. I cannot help but think the business plan for this station isn't viable in the longer term and this station will unceremoniously cease in the next 2 to 4 years. In the meantime, I'm enjoying their music but that won't pay the bills on the am dial.

The fidelity for music listening is god-awful regardless of the genre played being good. This goes for all AM stations.

Is that Mike Bullard hosting the drivetime show THE Mike Bullard? If it is, it's certainly taken him awhile to land something after that debacle involving Cynthia Mulligan of City TV. It's quite a comedown after being on CFRB, Canada's biggest talk radio station. That may well be worth tuning into just to hear if he references his long absence.

Yes, it is THE Mike Bullard from what a Toronto media friend tells me

CKNT found the money to afford Norm Murray? Wow! Impressive!
I wonder if he's just crawling in to do "Live demo" and getting out...

Maybe CKNT could do a two-for-one and hire former 50 goal scorer and one-time Penguin/Flame/Maple Leaf Mike Bullard to do sports with THE Mike Bullard?

I was listening to CKNT in the car in Scarborough this evening and was wondering why they were airing a commercial for Virginia Tourism. Then I realized I was listening to WFIR-Roanoke.
