Yes, of course it was a complete overreaction. It's the end of a very long season of sports overruns that never seems to stop with this particular network. I think next week things are actually on time for once. Although knowing CBS, they'll find a way to delay the start of prime time somehow!

Don't stop at a mere letter. Organize a mass hunger strike with the ultimate resolution being a drink of poison Kool-Aide. Along the way, pillage, vandalize and mame as many as possible.

The hallowed CBC or CHUM from 1954 would never do this.

Time for Kathleen Whine to legislate mandatory start times.  She can pay for it with a huge tax on the air we breathe.

All the other series are aired on time in Canada, unless there's a specific reason (like Global or CTV showing a sports simulcast, for example) that might prevent it here. All the Canadian networks get a pre-feed of the shows, so they're in house when it comes time to show them and they can manipulate things like the credits for their own needs. 

But I don't believe there is a pre-feed of "60 Minutes," which is sent out only at 7 PM (or whatever time it finally airs) by CBS. That means CHCH can't roll it early, especially since the station is easily received across the border. As a result they're often put in the rather strange position of having to start fill-in programming, which can be cut off at any second once the CBS feed begins.

It's a crazy situation but I remember when CH was producing a weekend newscast and their hosts would have to stay on the air - and sometimes stay on and on and on - all the while repeatedly announcing "60 Minutes has been delayed at the source. We will join it the minute it begins." All of which was code for "CBS has yet another sports overrun and we have no choice but to keep showing you the same stories over and over and over until whatever they're showing finally ends."

As far as I know, "60 Minutes," perhaps because of what time it's scheduled, is the only non-live American show that runs into this problem. Oddly, though, the U.S. radio feed of the audio always starts on time - even this past Sunday, when the TV network was showing that endless overtime NCAA game. But it was on WCBS-AM, WBBM-AM and more in its normal slot.  

There was one other weird anomaly that happened yesterday. CKTB, which normally airs the 60 Minutes audio, didn't have it at 7 PM. When the CBS-TV version finally started at 7:35 PM, they joined the feed for the Stormy Daniels story, then cur back to the TED Hour show that had originally started airing, missing the rest of "60's" minutes altogether.

At one time, CBS used to televise the March Madness tournament themselves. With the increase in telecast rights fees, they can't afford to do it on their own anymore. Now it is also devided up between TBS, TNT and TRU TV. I don't know how it is decided as to who gets what games. CBS got the two Sunday games scheduled for 2:20 and 5:05. Earlier time starts probably would have solved the problem, but possibly the NCAA has a say in start times. The late game was between Duke and Kansas, two basketball powerhouses which would deliver huge numbers. It is unfortunate for 60 Minute fans that the game went into overtime, Hence the 36 minute delay. had the game ended on time, 60 Minutes would probably started around 7:05. Next Sunday you should be safe. The two "Final Four" games will be played Saturday night and the Championship game Monday night. A word of caution, The Masters Golf Tournament [on CBS 2nd weekend in April] could cause problems if there is a playoff.

Two observations.  would cbs provide an advance version of a contentious 60 minutes to a canadian channel, in order to let them scoop the broadcast story..... i doubt it.  I also agree that cbs should have anticipated some sort of delay in programming, however it seems that people were willing to wait to watch.  so..... tells me that an important topic like lewinsky, er, stormy still gets ratings.
