Why Do Most Of The Canadian Networks Do This At The Same Time?

I like to watch CTV's Question Period on Sunday mornings, mainly because host Vassy Kapelos is great at holding politicians of every stripe to account.

Her long running show airs opposite "Rosemary Barton Live" on CBC and "The West Block" on Global. All cover the same thing - the politicial machinations going on in Ottawa and around the country.

And while "West Block" is only 30 minutes and the other two run for an hour, they all start at 11 AM. Why do they do this? Picking the exact same time for the exact same themed shows seems deliberate. But wouldn't it be better to stagger the start times so those who are into this stuff could watch as many of them as possible? (And yes, I suppose if you're a real fanatic, you could watch one and DVR the other two.)

Why do they all air at 11 AM Sundays? I've never seen the point of having all three similarly themed programs on at the exact same time.

Re: Why Do Most Of The Canadian Networks Do This At The Same Time?

CTV News Channel and CBC News Network do the same thing at 5pm weekdays.  On CTV we have Power Play with Vassy Kapelos and over on CBC it's Power & Politics hosted by David Cochrane.  CBC's P&P goes to 7pm however.  These shows are often better than the Sunday morning programs because they are live and are able to cover breaking news on stories.  A lot can happen in Ottawa late afternoon during the week.

Re: Why Do Most Of The Canadian Networks Do This At The Same Time?

South of the border, NBC and ABC feed their Sunday morning political public affair shows at 9am while CBS sends Face The Nation out at 10:30am. However, all three networks are pretty flexible in allowing their affilliates the best time to air them.
