If you weren't around in 1964, you probably never saw this. And even if you were, you may not have.
It only aired once - on Sept. 7, 1964 - on NBC's Monday Night At The Movies. (Back when showing a movie on broadcast TV was a big deal.) It was during the height of the Cold War between The Soviet Union and the U.S., when there was real fear the world could be destroyed with the push of a button.
This thing made such a splash and created so much controversy, it was never shown again. But those who saw it will never forget it.
It has since become both the blueprint for future "scare" ads and also a lesson against them. Still, it worked. Lyndon Johnson beat Barry Goldwater to become President of the U.S. and many credit this ad with helping to make that happen.
It's known as "Daisy" and it was a doozy, so famous, it's now an exhibit in the Library of Congress. After this, political ads would never be the same.

RA: A slight correction. NBC introduced its first movie night in 1961 on Saturdays which remained on its schedule until 1978. Because of its success, NBC introduced a Monday version for the 1963-64 season. For the 1964-65 season it was moved to Wednesdays. The ad in question likely aired in the 9pm slot [Andy Williams in living colour] or 10pm [The Alfred Hitchcock Hour in glorious b&w] My guess is Alfred Hitchcock. A grim ad on a dark show.

Is it not possible that because Monday, Sept. 7 would have been Labour Day that the 1963-64 season was still in effect and it aired during the last night, or one of the last nights, of the NBC Monday Night Movies?

Ever so slightly, way before my time.
My mother would have been just slightly older than the girl in that video.
Too young to have kids.
