Came across this on the Sauga 960 Facebook page. The station that many of us wondered why and how they are still around has announced a brand new morning lineup of Punjabi programming, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., starting today.
Can't say I'm surprised they're doing this, as I've long expected such a move.

There's a stronger audience of Punjabi crowd in Brampton than in Mississauga.

There's to much punjabi programming in the market.
And, Are they even aloued that much ethnic programming?
And who even owns the place, is it Sur Sagor or Eliot Ker?
If they want to go ethnic, maybe target the large arabic community in missisauga.
Punjabis have the following: CJMR, Red fm, Radio humsafar, CMR, and WTOR, and Chin and CHLO, arabs don't have any radio station and there growing faster than the punjabis.

Most if not all of the stations you mention are paid time, so if you feel there's too much of one language used, it's probably because someone (or several "someones") has the money to try and reach that audience. I'm sure they'd be glad to rent out their airtime to whoever comes calling if they think they can get a return on their investment.

Your right about that.
From what I know, the punjabi community's more well-off than most arabs in the gta and have bin here for generations.
Out of the arabs in toronto, the lebanese and ejyptians are the most well-off so they can maybe get 2 hrs of programming and make it work.
I guess that's why punjabi, urdu, and tamil are popular languages, these communities have the money to spend and infrostructure to own a station or get huge blocks of time.

This is a curious situation indeed. The program guide on their web site shows 8 am to 12 noon five days a week, plus 1 hour on the weekend. In fact they are Punjabi as of 6 am. That means that they have a total of 31 hours per week, which equates to 24.6 percent.
They are still awaiting the CRTC decision on their application to increase from the permitted 15% for non-ethnic stations to 40%. That application attracted vociferous opposition, and cited instances of overt non-compliance.
