Servicing the debt was optional?

They did exactly what they should have: focused on core assets (which appear to be Global News, Stack, and a few radio stations) that are positive contributors, while stripping everything else down  to just "operational" to prepare them for sale to existing broadcasters who can efficiently integrate them into existing clusters and re-build them to some degree.

Calling it “exactly what they should have done” gives management a lot of credit for managing a crisis it helped create. It’s unfortunate all around. So many things going against them and all traditional broadcasters without sports properties.

who voicetracks for Kingston and Cornwall. It appears he is based in Cornwall. Odd they would keep him in the midday timeslot, but have no hosts (live or tracked) on morning or drive. As someone once said on this forum regarding CJOY somebody forgot to turn it off.

I don't know about the cost of running CJOY, but it is running ads in a manner that suggests that the station is making money. 

There's no way of knowing that based on hearing the commercials. We don't know the rates. We also don't know how many are simply bonuses for buying Magic. (probably lots)

Whether is makes or loses money, it's probably by a tiny margin.

If it's a loss, they'll have determined that it at least has some sale value to someone sometime soon.

Bell won that gamble in Hamilton, Windsor, and probably St Catherines. So you never know.
