Ex-60 Minutes Managing Producer's Scathing Statement On Show Changes

CBS ' "60 Minutes," the longest running and most prestigious TV news magazine in history will be back for its 59th season this month. But how many people will be watching the revamped show or believe its reporting is another matter. We all remember the very public firing of host Scott Pelley earlier this year, and now another dismissed but less publicly known staffer has let loose with a spew of vitriol.

Guy Campanile was once the Managing Editor on the program, not an insignificant position. He was one of many let go, after refusing to obey orders from the new executive in charge, Barry Weiss. On Tuesday he finally broke his silence and in several online postings, let loose with a stunning series of pronouncements outlining what really happened behind the scenes at the troubled show.

“Tanya Simon, Draggan Mihailovich, Matthew Polevoy, Scott Pelley, Sharyn Alfonsi, Cecilia Vega and I refused to be accomplices in the destruction of the most prestigious news program on American television.”

“We would not compromise our principles or reputations by jamming unverifiable notions or White House talking points into our reporting. We objected when told to conduct interviews arranged by the administration. We insisted on asking the most challenging questions to business and political leaders without fear or favor. We did what reporters worth their salt do – we questioned authority, including our own bosses."

It makes you wonder how the new season will be greeted when it debuts on Sunday.

You can read his remarkable statements here.

WOW! Talk about speaking his mind. He certainly made his views abundantly clear. As for Neilsen ratings, I think the premiere will be huge. Viewers will tune in out of curiosity. If they like what they see, they will return. If not the following weeks ratings will likely plummett significantly.  This could be the last season. Ratings drop, Advertisers flee. What to do? Try to fix the problem? Can't do that. Series isn't bringing in significant revenue? take the easy route. Cancel it.

Technically, W5 has been on longer than 60 Minutes.
