A story in today's London Free Press states the above. It also mentions the Kitchener Rangers will move to CKWR 98.5.
Is this significant?

The only significance now is that it will be easier for Corus to shut down 980 without causing conflict with the Knights games.

What about Blue Jays games? Could they move to JACK 102.3 or could 98.1 could pick up the rights next year?

Nevermind the Knights or The Rangers, 98.1 needs a live afternoon drive show and 98.5 needs a live morning show,

I can't see 980 shutting down anytime soon ... my understanding is they have a decent sized audience. Am I mistaken?

Decent size audience doesn't guarantee profit. It probably runs at a loss. The London market is way down this year.

Jays on JACK would be a huge mistake. That station rates quite well, usually,

It's effectively a rebroadcaster of 640 so I'm not sure it's long for this world. The only local programming on a talk station being the morning show.

The last time I checked a couple of weeks ago CFPL 980 is live from 06:00 - 09:00 with a morning show as well as from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. I checked now at 4:08 pm and it sounds like a networked show so perhaps the live pm show is no longer.
Their transmitter site is located south of London on Wellington Rd. just south of Regina Mundi College. This area has quite a bit of urban growth near by.

I checked the 980 web site and it no longer indicates a local show at 3:00 pm. It has been replaced with Ben Mulroney.
Before shutting off CJBK 1290, it was down to a local morning show only; the local PM drive had been cancelled.
All other other programming was networked.
Is the writing on the wall?

Yes, it seems to be the exact situation that CJBK was in.
I remember the glory days of 980, with Bill Brady as morning man, a great news department, a great community presence, and after the music days, some interesting talk shows.
It would be sad to see a 100+ year old station die, but we'll just have to (as they say) "stay tuned."

Nice gift to 101.3 GIANT FM. Knights are popular - BUT - more people dont care than do - especially in Sept / Oct during ratings.
