Andy Rooney Redux? 60 Minutes To Resurrect An Old Program Staple

Remember when Andy Rooney used to do his famed commentary at the end of every 60 Minutes? It appears the revamped CBS news magazine is ready to bring it back, with a new crew of rotating guests. And many of the names would be familiar, if they agree to the gig.

"(The network) has approached Jerry Seinfeld, John Cleese and Stephen A. Smith about taking turns behind the desk, according to a report."

It comes as the longest running TV news magazine undergoes major changes, firing some of its longest serving correspondents and apparently taking a turn to the right politically. The new season debuts in September.

Andy Rooney was worth the price of admission back in the day! One of his commentaries that has stuck with me was when he was griping about the amount of cotton wool in the top of pill bottles. I think he laid it on thick for effect, very entertaining! Hard to believe he’s been gone 15 years, died a month or so after his last show in his 90s.

I have read two of his books. A Few Minutes With Andy Rooney [1981] and Pieces of My Mind [1984} When reading I can hear his voice which makes it doubly hilarious,
