After 14 years, the ladies of The Social will be more like The Social Media. The show is being completely revamped as a video podcast for its upcoming season, with three of the current hosts coming back, and another (Melissa Grelo) departing - ironically, for her own podcast.
And that's not the only change.
"The new “reimagined” format will still be filmed live, but without an audience, combining “the strength of a podcast with the feel of a daytime series.” It will continue to be broadcast weekdays on CTV at 2 p.m."
I never watched this show but I always got the feeling from hearing snippets of it that the live studio audience was a big part of its appeal.
CFRB runs the audio of the show on the weekends. It's not clear if that will continue, although there's no real reason why it shouldn't.

"video podcast" is such a clunky concept... is it nothing more than reblanding, erm, rebranding, also known as saving money?
p.s. the intro music they use on "The Social" is nails on chalkboard irritating.
wonder if this is just the start of switching more shows to the video podcast format?

To me it was nothing more than a Canadian version of The View.

Nailed it.
Even so, there are worse things to be.

I think this is code for. We are moving the show from Downtown Toronto to Scarborough. Remember there is still a few things left at 299 Queen that need to move out before this site gets redesigned and becomes Condominiums

It won't last one season.

I have mistakenly tuned into The Social on CFRB and it was head exploding material. They were all talking over each other like teenagers and it was hard to single out what anyone was saying. And this happened a few times, not a one off, guess it wasn’t for me.

got to move out anyway for canada line construction

If it is going to continue to broadcast daily at 2 pm on CTV what is the difference other than a live audience?

That alone will completely change the program...... it's a completely different approach when you don't have a laugh track or people reacting to the latest Kardashian news. Imagine The Tonight Show without an audience, or Modern Family with one, it's completely different

I was fairly baffled when Grelo said something to the effect of "when I pitched it in 2010"..12-13 years after The View, with the use of social media arguably the only different wrinkle (and I guess a relative paucity of hard politics talk like the US - probably a good thing - but was probably owing to the on-air people they chose). I mean, it's hard to believe between 1998 and whenever that no CDN TV exec or person other than Melissa Grelo had the idea to do a CDN View.
Also, I have never seen her credited as an exec or even producer so maybe she could have negotiated better.
