So silly.
The punjabi community is only growing.
Maybe rogers can put the punjabi games on omny and partener with chin fm to air them on the radio or even red fm, but chin and rogers are closer parteners.
There are so many punjabi hockey fans, maybe it will help the new ones intergrate with our canadian culture while keeping there language.
That's why these new immigrants don't feel canadian and will no nothing about our culture, there not forced to, they just stream media from back home and not our local punjabi media.

These new ones, unlike the older generations of immigrants have no interest in being canadians.
Being canadian means adopting our culture while keeping the good parts of your own such as language, food, music, and launching your own media in canada instead of just watching content from back home.

And then there's the bonus of keeping the NHL/Leafs off free TV, where anyone who didn't speak the language but wanted to follow it on radio with the TV sound turned down could stlil have done so without paying Rogers a cent. No surprise they've found a way to take that option off the board.
I can only wonder if those 'anemic' ratings would have gone up a bit by being the only freebie in town. We'll never know now.
A sign of the broadcasting times, I suppose. How long before the Super Bowl becomes a pay-per-view only event?

And, they should have had hockey in more languages.
They should have looked at the ethnicities with the most hockey fans and who will be mostlikely to watch hockey.
My guesses because it did not happen. Greek, Italian, Urdu, Arabic, Polish, Russian, Ukrainian, Portuguese, Serbian and croatian, Macedonian, Cantonese and mandorin, Hungarian, German, and first nations languages.

Not silly at all. Rogers is actually planning on shutting down Omni, from what I understand.

Rogers would like to unload all their media except Sportsnet, but there’s no buyers out there.

Chin could by omny.
Stingray could by 680 news, kiss 92.5 and 98.1 CHFI, but the rest, I'm not sure who would even by them.

Stingray owns two FM's already. They will not be allowed to own two more unless someone else buys 680.
I have no evidence at this time that Rogers wants to sell any of their Toronto radio stations.
I am not aware of the current goings on over at CHIN, but I honestly do not know if they want to own a TV station.
Also, don't forget Fairchild. They might want to snatch up Omni.

Chin or fairchild are the 2 best bets to by omny.
And, I thoght the new rule was 4 fms?
If stingray cant by, maybe cogeco will enter the ontario market, they allready own cable in hamilton and i think windsor and guelf, maybe cogeco will by CHYM fm Kitchener.
But who will by rogers's specialty channels?
Bell won't by them, Corus is'nt doing well, so maybe TVA/Quebecor media?
Or maybe some smaller group such as blueant or anthom or channel 0?

It's still 4 stations MAX, any way you look at it. (ie 3 fm and one AM or just 4 FM and no AM)

Cogeco is currently looking after various French properties first. It is not clear if they have any desire to invest in Toronto market radio stations (or other places at the moment)

I am not aware of Rogers showing any desire to sell their specialty channels. Part of the problem is that Corus is looking to be the better grab for specialty channels.
If the CRTC dictates that one can not own both the Corus specialty channels and the Rogers specialty channels, then it's even tougher to find a buyer.
Blue Ant media is one source that just might want the Corus specialty channels.
I doubt they'd be allowed to buy Rogers specialty channels also (to shut down duplicates, ie keeping Food network alive, but shutting down Flavour TV)
But anyway, maybe Rogers isn't selling their specialty TV channels at the moment anyway...maybe it's making a bit of money for them...who knows?

Or they could have kept HNIC Punjabi going and also put it on Sportsnet+.
I guess Hockey Night in Canada in Cree on APTN is also no more.

So then, who do you think if anyone would by rogers's radio stations if rogers were to sell?
Mybroadcasting won't own any stations in large cities, so who's left?

There's lots of possibilities. Pattison group already has a billboard business here, so maybe they would love to get their hands on some Toronto stations...but this is all pure speculation and nothing more.
BUT back to Punjabi, maybe now BIG 820 can carry the games and the Punjabi Hockey fans can mute the TV and crank up BIG 820 to make up for what Omni has dropped...

Maybe the younger generation is good with the games in English ...

Sorry to hear this, but it will save me a step recording NHL hockey on Rogers.
They title the Punjabi edition the same as the Sportsnet ones so sometimes I end up with the Punjabi version instead of one in English. Sometimes, they also move the game around Sportsnet so I can't select a specific channel to record from.
Once in a while I needed to physically check if the recording was the right one and I caught it a few times.
The first time I put one on was a bit of a shocker.
