As predicted, former Toronto host Bill Carroll - currently living and working on air at CFRA in Ottawa - will be the replacement for John Moore's final hour, as the local morning man looks to reduce his workload on CFRB.
In typical Bell fashon, the addition won't cost the company anything, since Carroll is already part of the company and is on the air from 6-10AM.
He promises an all local 60 minutes, even as he's also on covering Ottawa issues. It will be interesting to see how he pulls that off.
The change begins on Monday.

I got a kick out of Moore listing Carroll's Toronto radio resume, including "a station that will go unmentioned."
AM640 anyone?

Never much of a fan, but despite his huge ego, at least Carroll always stuck to news and current events issues, with hard-nosed opinions, unlike the new breed of yakkers who seem more concerned with self-analysis, relationships and the latest season of The Bachelor. He may be a welcome change from the drivel on 640 during that hour. I'll give him a shot.

Yes, he specifically pointed out it wasn't a simulcast of that 9am-10am hour from Ottawa - it was exclusive to Toronto listeners. I wasn't quite clear on how he's accomplishing this ("Now I could get into the details of how this happens..." but he trailed off). A bit of pre-taping of content for the Otttawa market, in the 5am-6am hour? Running clips from earlier in his Ottawa show in the last hour for their market? He did similar in his time simultaneous on AM640 and KFI Los Angeles, pre-taping some of the AM640 stuff earlier in the day and then, as I recall, an hour live.

I know Bill Carroll has his fans and I’m sure he’ll do a great job, however I was hoping for something “fresh”, or someone’s return to the biz maybe. Anyways, Bill Carroll it is, onwards!

Actually this is a good move. It will be nice to hear Bill again on a regular basis with his own hour show. Bill has always been a Toronto guy...

Ottawa being a smaller market might get pre recorded stuff, but somewhere along the way I think the 9am show will become the Ontario Hour and may one day include Windsor. They are already doing this when they repackage local shows and air them on what's left of Bell Media newstalk stations.

That would be a good idea as well. Local morning shows are usually finished by 9am. An Ontario hour based in Ottawa would make sense.

Remember Bill Carroll's second stint at AM640, when he was living in Los Angeles and would do his AM640 show from there? So he's kind of used to living in one place and doing a show that airs in another...at least he's in the same country this time around...

All good, but unfortunately, it's municipal elections coming up, not a provincial one.
A provincial election would have given Bill a stronger hand.

Last I knew Bill Carroll broadcasts his Ottawa show from his home & has done so for the last two or three years.
I wonder if that is also perhaps a "someday" option for John Moore who continues to look to lighten his load?

Yes, Carroll has a strong home studio setup and I recall was in fact teased about "working from home" in a Mar 2026 "roast" celebrating his 10 years on CFRA.
Moore has mused openly this week about management saying "What can we do to keep you?" vs. a looming retirement and mentioned the month-long vacation and reduced hours, but the "working from home" I might expect (i.e. even only every Friday or something) never came up. He did that during lockdown, but from what he's said over the years he vastly prefers to be in-studio when people drop by, downtown energy, and producer and board op are on the other side of the glass - he thinks it makes for a better show.
Here's Bill earlier today:

A few things Bill said on CP24. 1st) he is also looking at retirement and is happy to be back on Toronto radio for his final years. And 2nd. ( I did look this up). CFRB is turning 100 this coming February 19th 2027.

Moore confirmed on air Friday morning that if Bell Media had not agreed to letting him off the 9 AM hour, he would have retired. This appears to be his major demand and management wisely gave into it.

well this will certainly attracted a younger audience

This will mean one more hour of hard right talk radio in a city that is very Liberal and liberal. Bill will join Jerry and Deb in daily rants about how terrible Mark Carney and Olivia Chow are, but few will be listening.

hope he gets sound profing in that echo changer he is in

Bill the Shill, followed up by 'Did I mention I worked in Chicago' Agar? That's a lot of blowing hard packed into 3 hours.

Edited from an earlier post:
Bill's show debuted on 1010 today and I flipped back and forth between the CFRA and Newstalk 1010 audio streams and for the first half hour it seemed largely or entirely to be the same show - a simulcast. After 9:30, though, he was talking Toronto, Newstalk 1010 and Robert Turner more specifically and the CFRA audio seemed to be a pre-taped segment (maybe he can do some of that during that station's news/commercial breaks).

I thought Bill in his conversation with John Moore last week specifically said "It wouldn't just be a simulcast"? It's possible as the show goes on they can and will cut in local topics, pre-taping other segments in time blocks, and he'll take Toronto callers, but so far it's the cheapest money-saving "simulcast" method around.
He also said it's here to stay, depending on the ratings. He just signed a new three-year contract with Bell Media, so even if the CFRB gig doesn't work out - and there's no reason it shouldn't - he's going to be around awhile.
And yes, I heard the exact same promise of it being original content for Toronto. But no matter how they do it there's no way you can be doing two different shows live in two cities at the same time.
He just started talking about the Toronto Mayor's race. I wonder how that's going over with an Ottawa audience.
[Edit: Answer: It isn't. as noted above, the feeds from CFRA and CFRB were different after 9:30 AM. The Ottawa show is talking about some medical breakthrough.]

Did he really just sign off by telling people not listen to the radio in their cars? I doubt that will make Robert Turner happy!

It was interesting to hear John Moore relay the story of the P.D. of CFRB coming to him and asking who he thought they should hire to fill afternoons. He suggested Deb Hutton or Jim Richards. And to his surprise, they wound up hiring them both.
I never knew the morning man had a say in who else works there. Perhaps a peek into the inside workings of the station.
Suppose for a moment that Moore had made good on his threat to retire. Who in the world would they get to take his place? I can't see any of the existing talent, as good as they may be, taking on mornings permanently.

Moore's mind was a bit off. Hutton is genuinely repellent ogre and the only person who thinks Richards is clever is Richards.

I have never liked Richards, Hutton? I don't have a strong opinion about her either way.
