The Famous WKRP Turkey Drop

Did you know this actually happened in real life and was not a marketing stunt. The WKRP  idea came from a Dallas radio station stunt where turkeys were thrown off the back of a truck. The turkey drop became an annual event in 1946 in Yellville, Arkansas. It was started by the local American Legion to celebrate wild turkey conservation in the Ozarks. Originally dropped off the roof of the Marion County Courthouse roof, in the early 1960's the town began using small airplanes to drop the birds. Amid growing controversy and safety concerns the local Chamber of Commerce and organizers decided to end the event in 2017. I found a video online of the 1983 turkey drop in a news report from KFSM CBS5 in Fort Smith. However, I don't know how to post it here.
