1980s TV Commercials That Didn't Age Well

I got a kick (and some cringe) out of the 9 minute video below. It features some TV spots from the 80s that - seen today - are eyebrow raising at best and in incredibly poor taste at worst. Any TV commercial that features Bill Cosby warning people not to do drugs because they may leave them unconscious is beyond irony and almost makes your brain hurt.

The rest are unbelievable, too.

If nothing else, it shows just how much times have changed in the past 40 or so years.

What an interesting way to start my day! Lots of politically incorrect and truly cringeworthy spots here that I highly recommend to all SOWNY board members! (Nice name for the weight reduction pills BTW!)

As funny as the ad seems, it would still pass today, but with a simple updated version reminding people of the spelling difference. It's AYDS, not AIDS... WAIT! I take that back! I just pictured myself telling friends how I lost weight...
"I have AYDS!"
Now I see the problem!

(You have WHAT???  )

I won't repeat it here so as not to play spoiler, but what the hell is that English food that begins with the letter "F?" I've never heard of it before and they don't tell you what it is in the spot. But boy, is that monicker ever unfortunate in today's day and age!

I've taken the F-name out, but here's the Wikipedia description. Sounds very ... British:

meatballs made from minced off-cuts and offal (especially pork, and traditionally pig's heart, liver and fatty belly meat or bacon) mixed with herbs and sometimes bread crumbs. It is a traditional dish in the United Kingdom, especially South and Mid Wales and the English Midlands.

Sounds as bad as black pudding.

Another thing that hasn't aged well.

(Or has aged wonderfully, depending on your perspective!  )

I can still belly laugh at the cartoons I grew up with. Particularly Rocky & Bullwinkle, Underdog, The Three Little Bops, Bugs Bunny vs The Crusher and Ralph & Sam who punch a time clock and spend the day either guarding sheep or stealing them.

And then there's this film, which has a great concept. It's supposed to hit movie screens this month. I hope it's a hit.

The Movie You Were Never Supposed To See Is Finally Hitting Theatres
