So long airborne traffic reports
It looks like 680 has stopped doing airborne traffic reports. Jordan Kerr and Kyle Hocking have been grounded for a while now. End of a legendary run on the station. Used to love hearing Darryl Dahmer's reports.
Other than the CTV news chopper, is anyone doing any type of coverage from the sky?

It would indeed be the end of a long era if this is a permanent thing. I've put this up before, but it seems like a good time to repeat it. It's from 1976, when having an Eye in the Sky was important for almost every major station.

They're no longer essential now that the GTA's traffic problems are solved.

Thanks to our amazing traffic czar. It only took me 18 minutes to get from University to Sherbourne on Adelaide the other day, good job Mr. Posluns, it used to take less than 5!

Bike lanes and never ending construction will always cause delays.

So CFRB could charge $160 for a 30 second ad in the Wally Crouter era. I wonder what they charge in the John Moore era. What also would be interesting is to compare the rest of RB's ad rates then to now. Even accounting for inflation, the now numbers can't be great.

Airborne traffic may be on the way out, but traffic reports are everywhere. Today you hear traffic reports/updates on community based stations and small market radio. And the reports are not generic but customized for local radio. The updates still cover the major highways but also secondary arteries that lead to the local community like Mount Forest, Fergus/Elora, Orangeville etc. even construction zones and road closures in those communities.

Don't forget fibre is everywhere and so are cameras attached to it 
. The number of 'traffic' cameras around the GTA is pretty impressive, and that's how most traffic reports are done. Helicopters or Twin Comanches for that point cost an insane amount to keep airborne. I can't see any way those costs could be justified these days.
Just for shits n' giggles I figured I'd throw together a 'mapping' site that backs up the routes with traffic camera images where possible. It's not close to finished, It's 456 on a list of 10 things I have to do, but it does illustrate how cameras are everywhere. I threw this together for someone who was working on a 'better' traffic report but also went on to things that kept their family fed . At least the images are 5-7 minutes old so it's a much better idea of traffic conditions.
Put a start point like address, postal code, name whatever and cross your fingers, hit tab, if the box goes green move to the Destination and do the same thing. Hit find and Round and round it goes, where it stops, nobody knows. If it works, you can hit the View route report which is still shite at this point, but you get the idea.
And there's a button for road traffic you can double down on if you're that concerned. Apparently based on my own drivel there are 1300 cameras in the gtha area alone.

CFTO still has a chopper and mostly uses it for overhead shots of accident scenes or weather scene setters. Since they’re already paying for it, perhaps they could use it for double duty on some of their radio stations during the morning show. But then that might mean having to hire someone to report from inside of it, and we all know Bell won’t do that.
